Blackburn Buccaneer S.2B Strike Aircraft

The Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer S.2B was the principal RAF-built variant of the Buccaneer S.2, itself developed from the original Blackburn S.1 with more powerful Rolls-Royce Spey turbofan engines. Designed for high-speed, low-level strike missions, the S.2B featured RAF-specific avionics and equipment for the carriage of Martel air-to-surface missiles. Its enlarged bomb-bay door could accommodate an additional fuel tank, extending its range. Capable of carrying conventional and nuclear weapons, the Buccaneer served in both maritime strike and land-attack roles, remaining in RAF service until 1994.

Lockheed US Navy P-3C Orion Maritime Patrol/Anti-Submarine Warfare Aircraft

NEW TOOLING

The Lockheed P-3C Orion was the principal maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft of the United States Navy during the Cold War. Developed from the L-188 Electra airliner, the Orion first entered service in 1962, with the definitive production model P-3C following in 1969. Powered by four Allison T56 turboprop engines, it combined long endurance with an extensive suite of maritime sensors, acoustic processing equipment and weapons, including torpedoes and anti-ship missiles. Its distinctive tail-mounted Magnetic Anomaly Detector (MAD) boom enabled crews to detect submarines beneath the surface.
Successive upgrades improved its radar, avionics and weapons systems, extending its operational life well beyond the Cold War. More than 750 P-3 Orions were produced, serving with air forces and naval services around the world.
While many operators have since replaced the type with the Boeing P-8 Poseidon, the Orion remains one of the most successful and longest-serving maritime patrol aircraft.

The kit: New tooling. Internal weapons bay can be assembled open or closed. Choice of markings for three US & Australian aircraft: (1&2) P-3C s/n 161763 or s/n 161765, US Navy VP-40 "Fighting Marlins" (the last active-duty US Navy unit to retire the venerable P-3C), NAS Moffett, 1988. (3) P-3C s/n 160753, Royal Australian Air Force 10 Squadron. Spray mask included.. Price:£21.66

Leduc 0.22 Experimental Aircraft 3D Printed Model Kit with Vacuformed Canopy & Decals

The kit consists of highly detailed, high-quality 3D printed resin parts, a vacuformed cockpit canopy, and decals to decorate your model. All components are produced using modern manufacturing technologies to ensure accurate geometry, fine surface detail, and realistic scale appearance.

The Leduc 0.22 was a French experimental interceptor developed in the 1950s by engineer René Leduc as part of France’s pioneering research into ramjet-powered aircraft. It represented the most advanced development of the unusual Leduc aircraft family.

Unlike the earlier Leduc experimental aircraft, which had to be carried to altitude by a larger aircraft before being released, the 0.22 was designed for independent takeoff. It combined a conventional turbojet engine with the characteristic Leduc ramjet system, allowing it to operate from a normal runway while continuing the development of ramjet propulsion for high-speed flight.

The Leduc 0.22 made its first flight in 1956. Flight testing was used to investigate the aircraft’s aerodynamic characteristics and combined propulsion system. Although the design showed considerable technical innovation, the program was eventually discontinued as French military aviation concentrated on more conventional turbojet-powered supersonic fighters.

Only one Leduc 0.22 prototype was completed, making it one of the most distinctive and unusual French experimental aircraft of the early jet age.

This Leduc 0.22 model kit is manufactured by Metallic Details under license from SamDim Design, the developer of the model.. Price:£43.32

Junkers Ju-88A-1/A-5
In the early days of this Photo Archive series, we published a trilogy of volumes on the Me109 in the Battle of Britain and a single volume on the He111 also in the Battle of Britain. At the time, we struggled to find high quality photos for these books, so we made them more about the units rather than the aircraft detail itself. They sold well, but didn’t quite fit in with the style of the WPA series, so we’ve avoided doing any more Luftwaffe subjects until we managed to source more high-res photos.

That day has finally arrived, as we recently negotiated the sale of several thousand PK (Propaganda Company) photos taken by official Luftwaffe photographers with close up access to the aircraft and aircrew.

This therefore is the first Luftwaffe book in the traditional WPA style. Filled with high-res and detailed images of the ubiquitous Ju88, it really is an essential guide to anyone modelling this classic German bomber. There are some great close ups of the incredibly cramped cockpit interior as well as detailed shots of the underwing bomb racks and undercarriage etc.

The Ju88 was the most technically advanced of the Luftwaffe’s twin-engined bombers of 1940. Whilst it would be easy to get carried away by including details of the many electrical, hydraulic, and fuel systems etc, we have stayed true to the concept of providing the modeller with what you need. For the sake of clarity for our mostly English-speaking readership, we have for the most part, deliberately refrained from using German language terminology.

UH-1C 65-9533, 176th Assault Helicopter Company, Chu Lai, 1971

Following the Korean War, the U.S. Army formulated requirements for a new multipurpose helicopter based on operational experience gained during the conflict. Bell Helicopter won the competition with its Model 204, designated XH-40. The prototype made its first flight on October 20, 1956, followed by the production HU-1A, officially named Iroquois. Its original HU-1 designation quickly gave rise to the nickname “Huey.” In 1962, under the new unified U.S. military designation system, the helicopter was redesignated UH-1.

The first Hueys arrived in Vietnam in 1962, performing troop and cargo transport, medical evacuation, and fire-support missions. The growing need for dedicated fire-support helicopters, or “gunships,” led to the development of the UH-1C. In June 1965, UH-1C helicopters began entering service with U.S. Army aviation units. Developed specifically for the gunship role, they featured a more powerful engine and wider main rotor blades for improved performance and maneuverability.

One of the principal armament configurations was the XM21 system, combining two six-barrel 7.62 mm M134 Miniguns with pods for 70 mm unguided rockets. With their firepower and maneuverability, UH-1C gunships provided effective support for ground forces, secured landing zones, and conducted night operations. Approximately 750 UH-1C helicopters were produced.. Price:£33.32

Nieuport 16 The Nieuport 16 represented the next step in the development of the highly successful Nieuport 11, appearing on the Western Front in early 1916. Retaining the compact and agile sesquiplane layout of its predecessor, the Nieuport 16 featured a strengthened airframe and a more powerful engine installation.

Powered by the 110-horsepower Le Rhône 9J rotary engine, the Nieuport 16 could reach speeds of approximately 165 km/h. The increased power gave the aircraft improved performance, while its distinctive V-strut sesquiplane configuration retained the excellent manoeuvrability for which the early Nieuport fighters became famous.

Externally, the Nieuport 16 could be distinguished from the Nieuport 11 by several details, including the revised engine cowling and the characteristic pilot's headrest. Usually armed with a Lewis machine gun mounted above the upper wing, the type saw service with French and Allied aviation units during 1916.

Although its frontline career was relatively brief, the Nieuport 16 formed an important link between the Nieuport 11 and the later Nieuport 17 and represents a significant stage in the rapid development of Allied fighter aircraft during the First World War.
