SchPzAbt 503 Tiger Is Kursk 1943 Operation Citadel 2.K & St.
Complete 2. Kompanie and Stabskompanie marking set for sAbt 503 Tiger Is during the Kursk offensive "Operation Citadel", in a nutshell. Essentially, Kursk '43 503th Heavy Battalion markings and organisation (part of), demysified. While the unit did utilise various numeral & cross styles across the companies, 2. K Tiger was most consistent on the use of number and balkenkreuz styles. Although the spacings between digits varied between tanks. Some were unevenly aligned. The set removes all these guess-work for each Tiger. Just pick the option and move forward.

Stabskompanie hull and turret crosses, albeit looking very similar to the rest of the kompanie, actually used balkenkreuz stencils different from the rest of the Tigers. This was discovered during the creation process. Even 1. and 3. Kompanie crosses were matched against them - did not fit. The whites and blacks were of different proportions on the Stabstigers.

The illustrations also highlight which production batch that each Tiger came from, including unique details (if there were any) that were installed on the vehicle. The entire Kompanie is illustrated except for 1 vehicle, in one way or another (not inclusive of all possible replacement or replaced tanks that were missed out), thus revealing the full organisational structure of the kompanie itself. Of interest is that each zug (platoon) had 3 Tigers, instead of 4. And 4 Zugs in total, instead of 3. Ultimately, still the same number of Tigers for each kompanie, but organised differently. Tiger "243" is not illustrated as there was no images to support the artwork at the time of print. Although numerals for "243" are still provided, in order to make 2.K markings complete.

Battalion emblems (4 variations) are provided, they were researched and drawn from actual markings.

Like all large Echelon decal sets, much effort went into research and creation. The Kursk 43 503 sets took an even greater effort, over a span of 2 years, as there were huge amount of information to gather, sort and process. The accumulation of information alone took way longer than that.

2. Kompanie Tigers were assigned to go into battle with 19. Pz. Div.

sAbt 507 Tiger IIs that saw action in the Paderborn area, 1945. Pecular to the unit, like their Tiger Is, the first digit of the turret numbers were larger and stood taller than the second and third digits (platoon and tank). Except that the colours were reversed - white outlines on solid black. Of interest is one of the "402"s featured on this set, which was with single-link tracks driven by18-tooth sprockets, and was fitted out as a Panzerbefehlswagen (antenna base on the turret, rear of the loader's hatch, antenna pot on the center rear of the engine deck and antenna tube across the rear edge of the hull). In other words, a stab Tiger II with late-war tracks. Also included are Turret number generics.

Norwich Airport Size 675mm x 675mm

Beginnings and the first Norwich Airport

Initially a British Army cavalry training ground, RFC Mousehold Heath was established on the site and was home to a number of Royal Flying Corps units; Nos 18, 37, 85 and 117 Squadrons. In April 1918, RFC Mousehold Heath became RAF Mousehold Heath, and following the war, Boulton & Paul Ltd took over the site as a test facility, although it should be noted that they had been present there during the conflict.

During the latter half of the 1920s, the Norwich and Norfolk Aero Club was established and from 1933, four grass landing strips were built forming the basic infrastructure of the first Norwich Airport, although by the beginning of the Second World War, use of the site had been reduced although it remained operational as an airfield up to the 1950s when it was redeveloped into the Heartsease Housing Estate.

RAF Horsham St. Faith and RAF operations

In 1939, a new airfield was constructed at nearby Horsham St. Faith, and opened on June 1st 1940 as RAF Horsham St. Faith. During the early part of the war it became home to a number of squadrons; Nos.19, 21, and 66 flying the Spitfire I, No. 105 Squadron flying the Mosquito IV, and Nos. 18, 21, 107, 110, 114, and 139 Squadrons, flying the Blenheim IV, with the exception of No. 139 Squadron which switched to the Mosquito IV in 1942. In 1945, the base became home to No 65 Squadron operating the Mustang III and IV and the de Havilland Hornet F.1.

The United States Army Air Force arrives

In the autumn of 1942, Horsham St. Faith began to be used firstly by USAAF ground units and then shortly after and briefly by the 319th Bombardment Group (Medium) operating B-26 Marauders. The 319th quickly departed then they were reassigned to the Twelfth Air Force and moved to Saint-Leu in Algeria.

It wasn't until April 1943 that the next USAAF unit, the 56th Fighter Group arrived comprising the 61st, 62nd and 63rd Fighter Squadrons flying the P-47 Thunderbolt. Again, occupation of Horsham was short-lived. Work had started on expanding the base for USAAF heavy bomber use and so the 56th FG relocated to RAF Halesworth in Suffolk in July. This was a move which was not entirely well-received by 56th FG personnel due to the relative comfort afforded by facilities and conditions at Horsham when compared to those at Halesworth.

In January 1944, the 458th Bombardment Group (Heavy) arrived with their B-24 Liberators and comprised the 752nd, 753rd, 754th and 755th Bomb Squadrons. Offensive combat operations began the following month. The 458th BG remained at Horsham until July 1945 when they returned to the United States.

Post war and a return to the RAF

That same month, the base was returned to Royal Air Force command and over the next twenty or so years, became home to a number of RAF squadrons; No 23 Squadron flying Vampire NF. 10's (1955-56), Canberra's (1956-57), Venom NF. 3's and Javelin FAW. 4/FAW. 7 (1958-60). No. 34 Squadron (1949-51) on flying target duties. No. 65 Squadron (1946) flying Spitfire LF. XVIe's and Hornet F. 1's. No. 74 Squadron (1946-50) equipped with Meteor F. 3's and F. 4's. No. 118 Squadron (1945-46) with Mustang III's. No. 141 Squadron (1955-56) flying Venom NF. 3's. No. 228 Squadron (1959-64) Bristol Sycamore HR. 14's and Westland Whirlwind HAR. 2, 4 and 10's. No. 245 Squadron (1946-55) operating Meteor F. 3's, F. 4's and F. 8's. Nos. 257 and 263 Squadrons (1947-50) flying the same Meteor variants as No. 245 Squadron. No. 275 Squadron (1957-59) with Bristol Sycamore HR. 14's and Westland Whirlwind HAR. 2's and HAR. 4's. No. 307 (Polish) Squadron (1945-46) operating Mosquito NF. 30's and last but not least, No. 695 (1945-49) on target duties. A number of other wide and varied ground and training units were also stationed at Horsham during these years.

Operations at Horsham St. Faith began to wind down from 1963 with the RAF finally departing the base in March 1967.

Civilian use

Following RAF use, the site was bought by Norwich City and County Councils and was redeveloped for civilian use. Two of Horsham's three original runways were closed with only the third being utilised. This was due to the runway location and direction which avoided flights overflying nearby residential areas. Norwich Airport finally opened in 1971, with charter flights beginning that year, a common operator being Air Anglia, although during the earlier years, only prop-driven aircraft operated from the site. As the years progressed, increased income allowed the airport to be expanded with the addition of a second control tower, although some of the original pre-war and WW2 building still survive, but have been converted for other uses.

Norwich is home to the City of Norwich Aviation Museum, with a number of static aircraft exhibits both military and civilian, along with an extensive archive and display documenting the history of the airport.

Destinations from Norwich do (or have) include(d); Amsterdam, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Exeter, Rhodes, Palma, Manchester, Tenerife, Alicante, Málaga, Menorca, Ibiza, Heraklion, Corfu, Bourgas, Crete, Bergamo, Paphos, Jersey, Lapland, and Dalaman.

Rheinbote German WWII tactical ground to ground V4 Rocket. During World War II, many remarkable weapons were developed in Germany. One of them was a four-stage tactical surface-to-surface missile with solid-fuel engines, called the Rheinbote. It was developed at Rheinmetall-Borsig by a team led by technical director Klein and Dr. Vüllers. Development took place from 1941 to 1944. For the Wehrmacht, the work was coordinated by Oberstleutnant Alfred Tröller.
The rocket was made of sheet steel, the diameter of the individual stages decreased from the first to the fourth stage. It carried an explosive warhead weighing 40 kg. However, there was only 20 kg of explosives itself. Originally, the rocket was to be launched from a modified 88 mm Flak gun mount, but in the end a modified Meilerwagen carrier was used. The rocket's range was up to 200 km. Serial production, approved by Gen. Kammler, began production in the autumn of 1944. 300 were ordered. Only about 220 were produced by the end of the war. The rockets were tested by the Versuchkommando Tröller test unit. This was transformed into a single combat unit, Artillerie Abteilung 709. It was still led by Oberstleutnant Alfred Tröller. The Abteilung consisted of a staff, a supply platoon, a measuring and computing platoon, and two rocket batteries. Each battery consisted of four Meilerwagen launchers and Sd.Kfz 8 tractors. It entered combat on December 24, 1944, near Nuspeet, Netherlands, when it fired 24 rockets at Antwerp. It continued to fight and fired more than 200 missiles by the end of the war. Since Oberstleutnant Alfred Tröller and his men did not know the exact impact locations, most of the missiles missed their target. Gen. Kammler stopped the development of the Rheinbot in February 1944, as it was clear that it was no longer useful with the end of the war. Some historians state that, alongside the V-1 aircraft missile, the V-2 rocket and the V-3 long-range cannon with reactive shells, the Rheibote ranks among the Vergeltungswaffe, designated V-4..
Sd.Kfz.251/10 The Sd.Kfz.251 half-track was an armored fighting vehicle and was used by the Wehrmacht on all fronts, during the Second World War. Powered by a Maybach 6-cylinder petrol engine was able to achieve, even in off-road terrain, the speed of 55 km / h. Produced in huge numbers, it was mainly used to transport the "Panzergrenadiers" but, during the war, several versions has been developed to meet various operational needs. The halftrack Sd.Kfz. 251/10 (Schützenpanzerwagen) was used as a platoon command vehicle and was armed with a 37mm PaK 36 anti-tank gun fitted with a protective shield. Production of the 251 ceased in 1942 when the cannon became increasingly ineffective against more advanced enemy armored tanks and vehicles.. Price:£17.99

Fokker D.II "Grünzweig`s Planes" In 1915, Fokker E.I, E.II and E.III monoplanes ruled skies over the Western Front. But their supremacy did not last long, they got obsolete quite soon afterwards and stood no chance against new biplane fighter aeroplanes of the Allies which possessed much better performance. German designers were thus forced to try and find a suitable replacement type quickly. Martin Kreutzer, a Fokker's designer, came with several varieties of a biplane fighter design designated as the M.17, one of which later reached production status and was known as the Fokker D.II. It was armed with one synchronized machine gun and the first machines of a total of 181 produced got to the front in the summer of 1916 and went on fighting until August 1917. However, beginning with very late 1916, they became to be employed on less exposed sections of the front or just to defend industrial centers against bombing raids of the Allies.
The kit contains three styrene sprues, two of them in short run standard, the third one is produced using metal moulds and brings the smallest items of the kit. A photo etched set and a windshield pre-printed on a piece of clear film are also offered in the kit. The decal sheet caters for two machines, both of which were flown by Lt.Fritz Grünzweig, a fighter pilot also renowned as an excellent painter, cartoonist and a buffoon. His machines were adorned with elaborated mouths and eyes on the cowlings and thus belonged to the most eye-catching of all Fokker D.IIs. Price:£35.99

Saab AJ-37 'Viggen' "Show Must Go On" The Saab AJ-37 'Viggen' was an aircraft ahead of its time. Its designers used an unorthodox construction which enabled the plane to meet all requirements which had been laid on it and in some parameters even surpass them. The Swedish Air Force ordered several various versions of the 'Viggen' jet fighter.

The very first version in service was the AJ-37 attack-fighter, later upgraded to the ASJ-37 'Viggen' standard.

One of these modernized machines got a special red anniversary scheme and was also embelished with Show Must Go On inscriptions and ghost cartoons and is now offered in our model kit which comes on seven grey styrene sprues with one clear with canopy parts and all that is topped by a pre-coloured photo-etched set.
Nationality: swedish. Price:£61.40
