Heer im Focus is a series of publications compiled by a team of renowned experts on the German Army. The aim of this series is to focus on those battles, vehicles, equipment and soldiers neglected by the literature until now. As with the Luftwaffe im Focus and U-Boot im Focus series, thorough research will take precedence over speed of publication. You will read accounts from us that are described in a completely different way elsewhere. Trust our articles, we get to the bottom of the issues. This is exactly what we are about, researching the history of the German Army in a way that you will not find elsewhere. It should also be noted that we will cover all the forces that saw action on land. This includes Luftwaffe units such as paratroopers, Luftwaffe field divisions and anti-aircraft units. For the illustrations, we will make use of unique original Agfa Colour slides from private collections as well as photographs which have never been shown before and which illustrate the events in a completely different light. But this publication is not intended just for historians and army enthusiasts. Modelers will get their money's worth too, as the series will be excellent reference source for the construction of accurate models (profile drawings and B/W + colour photos). Diorama makers will also find it a useful reference. The new series thus differs from other publications that also deal with this subject.
The editions will vary in size depending on the articles they contain. This means that there will be no uniform price. Price will be based on the size of each issue. However, no issue will exceed the price of 28.80 euros. Heer im Focus will be published at irregular intervals. In each edition you will find about 60 to 80 unpublished photographs from private collections with detailed captions in German and English as well as articles on special Army topics. Each volume will contain articles drawn from the following list of topics:

• Tanks in Focus
• Holders of the Knight’s Cross

Das Lehrgeschwader 1. The Mediterranean Campaign 1941/1942 in rare color slides
and selected black-and-white photos. Author Axel Urbanke
ISBN 978-3-941437-59-3
Pages: 288
Photos: 103 color photos and 178 black-and-white photos
Illustrations: 11 color page views
Maps: 10 color maps
Format: large size, 25 x 28 cm

This book is a unique collection of images and text. It brings together two sets of color slides
taken at Lehrgeschwader 1. One was taken by a war correspondent, the other by an observer from a particularly successful crew. Over 100 color slides show the operations and life of the I and II Groups of LG 1 during deployment in the Mediterranean in 1941/1942. The photos show the Balkan campaign, the airborne landing on Crete, missions against Malta and in North Africa, and the attacks on ship targets. Aircraft paint schemes and markings, which until now were only known from black-and-white photos, can be seen in color in this book. This allows many conjectures and previous information about the colors of the LG 1 aircraft can be corrected or supplemented.
Color side views show what the aircraft actually looked like.
Some completely unknown “gems” provide model builders with great ideas for building Ju 88s. Who
knows about Hauptmann Helbig's aircraft with its large personal lettering?
But the book does not only show the Ju 88s of LG 1. The supporting fighters and
destroyer aircrafts, as well as the Stukas and other units involved in the missions, are also shown in color and, in some cases, with rare camouflage paint schemes. The book is therefore more than just a
bomber unit publication; it is rather a volume about the Mediterranean theater of war with a
focus on LG 1.
The text section only briefly covers the overall events, as these have already been dealt with in other LG 1 publications. Instead, new information and diary excerpts are provided, that go beyond the current state of knowledge.
It also includes biographies of the two color photographers and the few war correspondents
who photographed at LG 1.. Price:£69.99

From Submariners to Tank Killers
Marine-Panzerjagd-Regiment 1 and the Fighting near Hamburg in April-May 1945

Author: Axel Urbanke
ISBN: 978-3-941437-53-1
Pages: 192
Photos: 157, 48 of them in colour
Illustrations: 15 color maps
Format: 24 x 28,5 cm - Large format, Hard cover plus dust jacket

At the beginning of April 1945, it became clear that the surrender of the Wehrmacht was only a matter of days or weeks. But despite this hopeless prospect, the German troops still put up fierce resistance to the enemy. Most of the front-line soldiers had long since given up hope of an already illusory final victory. Other goals now had priority. The way to the west had to be kept open for columns of refugees; steps had to be taken to ensure that civilians and wounded comrades could be evacuated by sea; and a path to the west had to be cleared for their own troops. The great spectre on the Eastern Front was that of being overrun by the Russians and then being subjected to their reprisals.
Very few interested people today know that a stubborn fight against the British and Americans was also necessary on the Western Front in order to achieve these goals. So in April, the Germans were playing for time, because every day that the Wehrmacht troops in the West delayed surrender saved the lives of thousands, even tens of thousands of people in the East. But Hitler was still alive and making his unrealistic decisions in Berlin. To oppose his orders in those days could quickly mean death.
In this situation, Hamburg, a city of millions, made preparations for a "defence to the last round of ammunition". Disaster loomed. Due to a lack of troops, at the beginning of April, the High Command of the Wehrmacht increasingly resorted to sailors whose ships had been sunk, were damaged, or are no longer able to sail due to a lack of fuel. Among these men were about 2,000 submariners who had been waiting in the Elbe metropolis for the completion or repair of their U-boats. Now, instead of putting to sea in their boats to fight the enemy, they stood up to the British with Panzerfaust anti-tank weapons as part of the 1st Naval Anti-Tank Regiment. Under the level-headed battle commander of Hamburg, they put up such a measured resistance that time was gained to finally surrender Hamburg without a fight and, by stopping the British at the Elbe, keep the Baltic ports open to refugees for about 14 days longer. This book is an exciting piece of contemporary history that provides a somewhat different view of the events of that time. Follow the submariners' fight in the Harburg Hills and on the Elbe, which has never been summarised until today and which saved the lives of tens of thousands of people.
Important note for submarine enthusiasts:
Photos of Type XXI and Type XXIII submarines are known to be very rare.
This book contains 31 unpublished color photos of the construction of
these boat types and their commissioning at Blohm-und-Voss and Deutsche
Werft AG in Hamburg. The photos were taken as part of film recordings
made by war correspondent Walter Frentz on behalf of Hitler. Frentz was
to film all of the modern new weapons in the summer of 1944. During
filming, he privately made color slides. The color recording is therefore a
small sensation that can finally be seen 78 years after it's creation.. Price:£61.99

Das vergessene As. Der Jagdfliger Gerhard Barkhorn by Bend Barbas
The Forgotten Ace
Fighter Pilot Gerhard Barkhorn

Despite the fact that Gerhard Barkhorn scored a total of 301 victories while flying with Jagdgeschwader 52 on the Eastern Front, making him the second most successful fighter pilot of the Second World War after Erich Hartmann, today he is almost forgotten. This book describes Barkhorn's wartime experiences with JG2 on the Channel, JG52, JG6 and finally JV 44. Excerpts from original combat reports enable the reader to feel the drama of the events that happened back then. Barkhorn's career in the postwar Bundeswehr is also examined.
Published in this book for the first time are numerous color slides taken by Barkhorn during his service with JG52, as well as many black-and-white photos. It also contains color side-views of every aircraft flown by Barkhorn. It is a book that examines all aspects of the fighter ace.. Price:£54.99
