Supporting Operations INHERENT RESOLVE, ROUGH RIDER, and six other named operations, the T-Bolts generated and flew 2019 sorties totaling 8,389 hours on what became the longest combat aviation deployment in CENTCOM history. The team expended 508 munitions, eliminating 285 ISIS and Houthi enemy combatants, shooting down 109 enemy drones, and destroying untold enemy bunkers and munitions storage facilities. This included an 8-ship strike package, each jet loaded with three JASSMs, a first for any fighter. Additionally, the T-Bolts were called to support ground alert and airborne overwatch for the President of the United States. Originally designated as the 49th Pursuit Group in 1940, the unit was one of the first combat units to deploy from the US to the Southwest Pacific after the attack on Pearl Harbor. There were 43 pilots that flew with the 49th who became aces to include Major Richard I. Bong. After flying the P-51, F-80, F-86, F-100, Republic F-105 and the F-4, the 49th TFW transitioned to the F-15 in 1977. The wings primary mission was to train new F-15 pilots until 1991. During that time, the 49th Fighter Wing achieved numerous milestones to include the longest flight by a single-seat fighter (14hrs) and also won the 1988 William Tell competition by outscoring the nearest competitors by over 2,000 points. It currently operates the F-16C/D Fighting Falcon Established in 1942, the "Wild Ducks" supported the European Theater flying the Spitfire Vs as the squadrons P-39s and P-40s were deemed unsuitable against German aircraft. They later transitioned to the P-51 till the end of WWII. During the Cold War the 309th flew the P-80A, F-84E and after being reassigned to TAC, they flew the F-4E. Since the Gulf War, the unit has flown the F-16 and The "Wild Ducks" AC on this sheet represents the 80th Anniversary scheme of the 309th. AC 90-0778 is an F-16D that was inherited from the 19th TFS at Shaw AFB and is the only F-16 to ever shoot down a MiG-25. "Benji 41" flown by Gen Gary North accomplished this kill on 27 Dec, 1992 and this paint scheme commemorates that MiG kill. This aircraft was assigned to the 310th FS Top Hats. They have recently transitioned to the F-35. Full stencils for both aircraft are included on this sheet.
