Designed to break through heavily fortified German defensive lines along the Siegfried Line, the vehicle prioritised extreme frontal armour protection over speed or tactical mobility. Lacking a turret, its 105mm T5E1 gun was mounted in a fixed casemate, while power was provided by a Ford GAF-V-8 engine. To distribute its immense weight, the T28/T95 employed a distinctive quadruple track configuration, with the two outer track units removable for transport.
