Guideline Publications - AIP01 - No Scale | Armour in Profile-Armoured Fighting Vehicles USA 1945-2018 By MP Robinson, David Grunnitt, Leif Robinson Armour in Profile: Armoured Fighting Vehicles of the United States Army, 1945-2018 contains profiles of five armoured fighting vehicles that have shaped the strategy and tactics of the United States Army since the end of World War II. From the battlefields of the Korean Peninsula and the jungles of Vietnam, to the plains of Central Europe and deserts of Iraq and Kuwait, these vehicles are iconic of American military might. Beginning with the M47 and M48 Patton tanks, replacements for the M4 Sherman, it goes on to examine the M60 tank and the mighty M1 Abrams Main Battle Tank, a vehicle that is expected to serve as the principal weapon of the U.S. Army for at least another two decades. As well as these main battle tanks, it profiles the 'King of Battle', the M109 self-propelled howitzer, another relic of the Cold War continuously updated to meet the challenges of warfare in the twenty-first century. Finally, the book looks at the 'REFORGER' exercises held in the 1970s and 80s, at the height of the Cold War, and which moved thousands of U.S personnel and vehicles to Germany on an annual basis. Mushroom Model Publications - MMPCAM01 - No Scale | Sd.Kfz.6 Mittlerer Zugkfraftwagen 5t by Alan Ranger During WW2, the German armed forces were the greatest user of half-track vehicles. Such vehicles were used in the Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe and Waffen-SS, where they served as personnel carriers, tractors, combat engineering vehicles, as well as self-propelled carriage of anti-aircraft and anti-tank guns. One of them was the Sd.Kfz.6 (Sonderkraftfahrzeug 6) Mittlerer Zugkraftwagen 5 t (middle half-track vehicle 5 tons). It was designed to be used as the main towing vehicle for the 10.5 cm le.FH 18 howitzer. Sd.Kfz.and was manufactured mainly by Bussing-NAG, with about 3,800 units being produced. The book presents a collection of photographs of different versions of the tractor from the private archives of German soldiers. The photographs depict vehicles serving on all fronts and in a wide variety of roles. This profusely illustrated photo album includes a large number of previously unseen pictures, many from private sources in Germany. Whatever the rules might have said, German soldiers took many photos, and these are the basis for this book. Photos of the all the main production versions are shown, including self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, artillery tractors and pioneer vehicles. Book contains about 120 period photos. Mushroom Model Publications - MMPCAM19 - No Scale | WEHRMACHT IN THE MUD (Camera On No.19) - Alan Ranger Format A4, 80 pages This new World War II photo album is the first ever book to show such a broad selection of both equipment and vehicles that have one thing in common - the battle against mud. It is estimated that nearly as many German military vehicles that were destroyed by enemy action were also lost to muddy conditions. This book contains 140 photographs of German equipment endeavouring to make its way through mud - sometimes with success and sometimes only with help. It shows many of the recovery vehicles in operation and the harsh conditions they had to work in. The images illustrate this battle with the elements as the soldiers viewed it as both their work environment and indeed were they had to live, not in the highly polished and sanitized views of the official photographers. Mushroom Model Publications - MMPCAM23 - No Scale | Staff cars in Germany WWII volume 2 Format A4 paperback, 80 pages This latest photo-album in the ""Camera On"" series contains 150 more photographs of private cars adapted for military use by the German forces during WWII. The remainder of the Opel motor company major production types are covered - the car types that were not covered in volume 1 - such as the Opel P-4 that was also used as the basis of many of the pre-war mock-up training tanks used by the German army due to the lack of real tanks to train with. The "Opel Kadett" (cadet), the Opel Supper 6, the "Opel Kapitan" (Captain) and at the top of the range, the luxurious Opel Admiral. In this volume the author provides a detailed impression of these vehicles through original photographs, taken both during and before the war by the normal German soldiers who both used and served with these now classic automobiles. Mushroom Model Publications - MMPCAM26 - No Scale | RENAULT R35 & R40 THROUGH A GERMAN LENS Camera On series #26 Alan Ranger The Renault R35, an abbreviation of Char leger Modele 1935 R (or R35), was a French light infantry tank of the Second World War. Designed from 1933 and produced from 1936, the tank was intended as an infantry support light tank. To this end it was relatively well-armoured but slow and lacking a good anti-tank capacity, fitted only with a short 37 mm gun. At the outbreak of the war, the anti-tank role was more emphasized, leading to the development and eventual production from April 1940 of a sub-type with a more powerful longer gun, the Renault R40. Following the defeat of France the R35/40 remained the most numerous French tank of the war; about 1,680 vehicles had been produced by June 1940. In this volume the author provides a detailed impression of these tanks through original photographs taken during the war by German soldiers. * Camera On: a new series of books on the equipment and operations of the German Wehrmacht in WW2. The iconic Douglas DC-9 airliner was chosen by the USAF for a aeromedical evacuation and VIP transport aircraft as the C-9A and VC-9C respectively and by the US Navy/USMC as a passenger/cargo aircraft as the C-9B. 21 C-9As and 3 VC-9Cs were built for the USAF, while 17 C-9Bs were built for the USN/USMC as well as 14 ex-civil airliners that were leased and or purchased by the Navy. Many of the purchased DC-9s were converted to C-9B standards with the addition of a large cargo loading door on the forward left-hand side of the fuselage. Naval Fighters - NF117 - No Scale | USN / USMC Fairchlid R4Q / C-119 "Packet" / "Flying Boxcar" Available February 24 By Nicholas M. Williams 72-pages, 140 b&w photos, 5 color photos, 22-patches, and 19 drawings. In 1949 the US Navy was looking for a tactical assault transport for its Marine Corps units and arrangements were made to divert 8 off the shelf C-119Bs from the USAF to the USMC. These 8 aircraft and the 31 C-119Cs that followed were designated R4Q-1s. A small number of these R4Q-1s were operated in Korea during the war before they were replaced by upgraded R4Q-2s/C-119Fs of which 58 were acquired. The R4Q-2s were later retrofitted with a nose mounted weather radar. The R4Q/C-119 were twin engine, twin boom transport / paratrooper aircraft equiped with a 36 ft 11 in long, 9 ft 2 in wide, 9 ft 10 in high cargo fuselage with clamshell aft facing doors capable of loading artillery or small vehicles. As a transport, 42 troops could be carried or 35 liters could be used. The main difference between the R4Q-1 and R4Q-2 were the engines used. The R4Q-1/C-119C used the R-4360 and the R4Q-2/C-119F used the R-3350. The R4Q/C-119 was a follow-on design of the C-82 and was operated into 1972. More | Aircraft books | New Arrivals | £24.99
Naval Fighters - NFAF219 - No Scale | Republic XF-84H Thunderscreech. The XF-84H was derived from the RF-84F as a supersonic propeller test vehicle driven by an afterburning Allison XT-40 turboprop engine. Two aircraft were built and briefly tested as noise produced by the propeller even at idle was too severe for safe ground crew activities. The sickening noise gave the aircraft its nickname "Thunderscreech". It was the 1st U.S. aircraft built with a Ram Air Turbine (RAT) which provided emergency electrical and hydraulic power in subsequent U.S. aircraft, but provided needed power for the XF-84H when landing. Another novel feature was a "take-off fin" or "vortex gate" aft of the cockpit to overcome the effects of the propeller torque. The flight program lasted from June 1955 until October 1956 with the program being taken over by the McDonnell XF-88B which flew until January 1958. The XF-88B had both turbojet and turboprop engines and could taxi and take off without the turboprop operating, thus without subjecting the ground crew to the painful noise. 40-pages, 77 b&w and 4 color photos, 21 drawings More | Aircraft books | Catalogue | £12.40
Squadron Signal - SQS12051 - No Scale | Mutt In Action (Soft cover) The 4WD M151 was intended to be a lightweight, high-mobility replacement for the M38A1, itself a successor to the famed World War II jeep. The series' service life spanned more than 40 years and four manufacturers, and the vehicles saw service everywhere the U.S. GI was deployed. This volume chronicles the development and field use of the 4WD M151 series in Europe, the Middle East and, of course, there is extensive coverage of the vehicles' service in Vietnam. Squadron Signal - SQS12055 - No Scale | M3 Stuart Light Tank (In Action Series) [M3A1 M3A3 M5A1] Named for Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart of the American Civil War, the Stuart tank filled the need for a light tank. The M3 and M5 series of tanks were the ultimate production variants of a line of vehicles whose development began in the mid-1930s. Then in 1941 the U.S. Ordnance Department accepted a proposal by Cadillac to install double Cadillac V8 engines in the tank and, after remodelling the hull to accommodate the new motors, a new tank, the M5 (to avoid confusion with the M4 Sherman) was born. Reconnaissance units in the front lines of U.S. forces were always accompanied by the agile M5s. With a top speed of 45 miles per hour, armour protection, and firepower, the M5A1 provided powerful support for mobile reconnaissance teams. Though not a match for heavy German armour, the Stuart was more than adequate for dealing with infantry and saw action with U.S. Forces in the Pacific, where the Stuart could confront Japanaš-a"s armour on better terms. In addition to serving the U.S. military, M5s were supplied to Britain and France and after World War II saw action of battle fronts in as far-flung places as China, India, and Indochina. Illustrated with over 200 photographs, plus colour profiles and detailed line drawings; 80 pages. By Rob Ervin and David Doyle More | Military vehicle books | Catalogue | £14.99
Squadron Signal - SQS12056 - No Scale | M2/M3 Bradley in Action series. Named for U.S. General Omar Bradley, the armoured M2/M3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle was designed to transport infantry or scouts and was possessed of sufficient firepower to suppress enemy troops and armoured vehicles. Introduced into U.S. Military service in 1981 the vehicle was built around the formidable Bushmaster 25mm chain gun mounted in the vehicle's two-man turret. The vehicle's three-man crew (commander, gunner, driver) was augmented by the ability to carry an infantry team of seven soldiers in the rear compartment protected by aluminium-alloy armoured skin. Powered by a Cummins Diesel V-8 engine, the Bradley had tremendous automotive performance as well. The M2 Bradley the original version of the vehicle was the basis for the M3, also known as a Bradley, a scout vehicle designed for the Cavalry that has the same three-man crew of the M2, but carries only two scouts in the rear compartment. Improvements and armament used on the Bradley's such as the TOW and TOW2 are also covered in the volume, whose 80 pages are packed with over 130 photos. Squadron Signal - SQS12060 - No Scale | M60 Main Battle Tank (In Action Series) David Doyle. The M60 Main Battle Tank was conceived as the successor to the M48 Patton with the hope that it would prove a better adversary to the Soviet T-54A. Introduced in 1959, the 105mm-armed M60, and its variants, the M60A1 and M60A3, remained in production into 1987, forming the backbone of the U.S. armored force until it was supplanted by the M1 Abrams. In addition to the conventional cannon-armed versions of the M60, the M60A2 variant, sometimes dubbed the starship, featured new departures in tank armament. The M60A2 was armed with a 152mm projector, which could fire a conventional round with a fully combustible casing, or the MGM-51 Shillelagh anti-tank missile. Completing the M60 family were the M728 armored engineer vehicle, and the still-in-service M60 Armored Vehicle-Launched Bridge. Illustrated with 155 vintage color photos, 69 historic black-and-white photos, numerous line drawings, detailed data table, traces the history of America's iconic Cold War tank. 80 pages. Squadron Signal - SQS27029 - No Scale | M18 HELLCAT TANK DESTROYER (Soft cover) Though relatively lightly armored, Buick's M18 Hellcat could top 55 MPH, making it the fastest armored fighting vehicle fielded during World War II. The Tank Destroyer men who crewed these vehicles used this speed and the Hellcat's 76mm high-velocity cannon to destroy German tanks; firing at the vulnerable areas of the enemy, and then racing away before coming under fire themselves. This volume examines the three principal variants of the Hellcat - the preproduction T70, early M18, and late M18, using ample visual reference to document these vehicles - and their differences - inside and out. Engine and drive train, driver's compartment, weapons and sighting systems, and stowage - both interior and exterior - are all carefully presented.
