Schwimmwagen T166 This model assembly kit recreates the wide wheel version of the German Schwimmwagen in 1/35 scale. It compliments Tamiya's popular German Schwimmwagen (item 35224) kit as it adds a variant version. The wide wheel version included wide tires and added equipment such as MG35 machine gun and two new figures.
About the German Schwimmwagen Type 166 (Wide Wheel Version)
Criss-crossed by rivers and dotted with wetlands, European geography poses significant military challenges and led the German Wehrmacht to develop the Schwimmwagen, an amphibious vehicle based upon the Ferdinand Porsche-designed Kubelwagen. With a 4-cylinder gasoline engine capable of 25hp, the Schwimmwagen featured the 80km/h top speed on ground. The rear three-bladed screw propeller was lowered manually using a rod and provided water speed up to 10km/h. While paucity of materials meant many Schwimmwagen used 133mm tires, those with wider 200mm tires enjoyed superior off-road performance.
